Early Years
Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

The Early year at Tillington Manor Primary School provides the foundations for children’s future learning and progress through the rest of their education. A sequential curriculum has been carefully planned out to ensure a broad range of knowledge, skills and experiences engage and enthuse all children from Nursery through to Reception. Our Early Years team respond to each child’s needs and interests through welcoming and warm interactions providing a positive learning environment for all children.
Children experience a play based, practical, hands on education through both our stimulating and well resourced indoor and outdoor learning environments. This is alongside many additional opportunities, including forest school opportunities, cooking and baking experiences, educational visits, walks around the local area and other engagements within our local community.

In the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), children’s development is guided by seven areas of learning, categorised into three prime areas and four specific areas. The prime areas are the essential building blocks for a child’s overall development and include Communication and Language, Physical Development, and Personal, Social, and Emotional Development. These areas form the foundation for learning, as they focus on fostering a child’s ability to communicate effectively, develop coordination and motor skills, and build self-confidence, relationships, and emotional well-being. Building on these prime areas are the four specific areas: Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World, and Expressive Arts and Design. These specific areas enable children to broaden their knowledge and skills, preparing them for future education and everyday life.
